The California primary elections for governor and Senate went largely as expected on Tuesday. The result of this year’s election is still considered as historic. For the first time, the California Republican Party nominated women to the top of the ticket both in the governor’s race and the race for the U.S. Senate seat.

Meg Whitman won the Republican primary for California governor. She was the former billionaire eBay chief executive who spent tens of millions of her own fortune into her first-time bid for political office. Another wealthy businesswoman Hewlett won the right to challenge Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer in fall. She was the former CEO of Packard Co. Carly Fiorina.
