“Fix BP Oil Leak”, Obama Takes Oil Spill Containment Actions: The most powerful leader in the world, US President Barack Obama is pressured now as millions of concerned citizens around the world call for an immediate containment action of the BP oil leak which is still spreading in the ocean affecting not just marine life but also the livelihood of a lot of fishermen.

It all started when the oil rig in the Deepwater Horizon exploded last April 20 killing 11 people instantly. After that, the oil leak began as broken oil pipes started gushing thousands of gallons every day to the ocean. Several oil spill containment efforts have been implemented, the last of which was a BP Top Kill Plan involving massive mass of mud to be used to seal the broken oil pipes from continuously gushing out oil into the ocean.

Obama expressed his determination to make a solution to stop this BP oil leak and said: “I take responsibility. It is my job to make sure that everything is done to shut this down. … The federal government is fully engaged. And I’m fully engaged.”

Because of what happened to BP, Obama announced several steps in his plan to at least prevent the same oil leak situation in the future which includes the following:

- Suspend planned oil exploration drilling in the Arctic Ocean off Alaska until at least 2011.
- Continue the existing moratorium agreement on any new offshore oil drilling and suspending the issuance of new deepwater well permits for six months.
- Suspend action on 33 deepwater exploratory wells being drilled in the Gulf of Mexico.

I just hope that oil companies such as BP be careful next time in their oil drilling activities. In addition, the US government should be stricter in giving permits to oil companies. They should implement more safety precautions guidelines and punish companies which cannot comply to the rules.
