What is Cystic Fibrosis? Cystic Fibrosis is one of the hereditary diseases which affects not only one part of the body but the entire body. It is caused by a mutation in the gene for the protein cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR).
Since the gene is affected in this disease, there were a lot of symptoms associated with it. Among them are sinus infections, poor growth, diarrhea, and infertility. According to a study, Cystic Fibrosis is most common among Caucasians and Ashkenazi Jews.
Currently, since Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease, there is no cure, and most individuals die at a young age — many in their 20s and 30s from lung failure.
